I worked at a company for 5 years and was laid off. Should I still believe in job loyalty?

I spent years building products, solving problems, supporting my team, and helping the company succeed. I believed that hard work and loyalty would create a long-term relationship. But when the company needed to reduce costs, my role was eliminated.
